Not so much as a jingle all the way, but remembering a time when jingles were a thing. A big thing.
"A jingle is a short song or tune used in advertising and for other commercial uses. Jingles are a form of sound branding. A jingle contains one or more hooks and meaning that explicitly promote the product or service being advertised, usually through the use of one or more advertising slogans."
So. I was reminded of a jingle as I was listening to the radio (on a rare errand into the land of Covid-itis. Which, for the record, is kind of a shock when you've been working from home,. It's a big ol' frosty locked down world out there. ) Anyhow. Digressing as I do... so I was listening to the radio and the Christmas song came on.
And all I could think of was a time when Christmas meant the Coke commercial was on. And it was a real Christmas memory. That's how powerful a jingle it was.
When I came home, I said to my husband, "What do you think of when I sing this line," and then in my wobbly voice, I sang out the line, "I'd like to teach the world to sing."
"Coke," he said without hesitation. Funny. Because I can't think of any recent jingles that will make me instantly think of a brand.
I'm probably really aware of it as I'm taking a Google course on digital marketing. Trying to figure out how to show the world how awesome my dog books are in person, lol. They are by the way. Awesome. haha.
Anyhow. It really it a whole new world of marketing out there,. It's probably been there for a while, but I'm just discovering it all. At my advanced age. God. My son, who today happens to be on his last day of being a teenager ever again in his life, probably knows all about social media and digital marketing. If I was younger, I'd definitely want to do this for a career. Anyhow. Another Digress. It's a different world out there for advertising. A million years ago I worked as a copywriter at a radio station and then for a television station. So I've always been a little interested in advertising, even though I didn't work for it for very long.
Maybe going viral is like having a jingle that everyone in the world knows.
Anyhow. It was a good memory, because Christmas. And those Coke commercials really used to give me the feels. And these days, we need some good feels.
